Maintain history file of all performed radiology exams.
Support user-defined mnemonic codes and/or visual pick lists (e.g. using a mouse) to select exams.

System should prohibit exam cancellation after statistical data has been captured or report transcribed.
Scheduling
Provide graphic display of schedule to view time slots by room, date, modality, department or facility.
Support rules-based automatic scheduling optimization that considers patient's day/time preferences, practice preferences and modality variables to find appointments slots.
Support automated patient wait lists for suggesting earlier exam times, if slots become available.
Automatically alert user of incompatible test conflicts when entering requests for a patient.
Print transport cards with flash card data, equipment required for transport, patient location, condition, and space for comments.
Workflow Management
Support display of worklists updated in real-time to monitor workflow (e.g. for active appointments and exams).
Support prioritized worklist displays for radiologists (e.g. for pending dictation, electronic signature and follow up).
Support entry of technical notes by the radiologist in exam case records.
Provide ability for radiologists or transcriptionists (with appropriate security access) to retrieve procedures from a shared worklist.
Support use of bar code technology to track patients and events for workflow reporting (e.g. patient ID, procedure ID, exam room location, etc.)
Patient Reports
Automatically retrieve patient demographic, location, medical, and physician data into patient exam report.
Provide integrated word processing capabilities for transcription result reporting.
Provide ability to automatically fax preliminary and final reports to referring physician and courtesy copies to other physicians.
Provide on-line storage and access for three years of exam report history.
Provide ability to archive report data to CD or optical disk media.
Film Management
Support bar code reader technology for image file transport and location tracking.
Support film/file check out tracking within radiology area and outside locations.
Display warning to user if borrower has overdue films or exceeded restrictions at time of film request.
Maintain special interest case file using American College of Radiology (ACR) class coding.
Provide ability to reserve image films if they are already checked out.
Mammography
Support and comply with MQSA mammography standards.
Support American College of Radiology's Breast imaging and Reporting and Data Base system (BIRADS) lexicon.
Provide templates (that can be customized) for physician result letters, patient result letters and follow-up patient letters.
Provide ability to track suspicious mammograms and pathology results from resulting biopsies.
Generate mammography statistical reports by radiologist, referring physician, and location for user-defined time intervals.
Inventory
Track and report inventory of film and supply items.
Print critical re-order report of items below minimum quantities.
Print inventory bin labels.
Print purchase order history report.
Print vendor performance analysis of orders, back orders, unfilled orders, and turnaround time.
Management Reporting
Print daily activity log of all exams by radiology accession number.
Print workload projection report of exam commitments to aid in staff and room scheduling.
Print room utilization report of total number of exams by room (within user-defined time period), also listing average and longest exam times.
Print exam turnaround time report showing average and longest exam times by procedure.
Print workload statistics by patient type, procedure, resource and technologist.
Billing
Automatically add appointments to pre-registration worklist based on the insurance carrier or procedure requirements.
Display exams denied by insurance and require contacting the patient to make other payment arrangements.
Provide ability to perform billing for affiliated providers (e.g. clinic, small hospital, free-standing emergency room).
Support automatic credits based on user-defined result codes (e.g. "CNC" for cancelled exam).
Provide electronic billing interface to radiologist's billing computer system.
Quality Assurance
Support tracking of equipment maintenance including dates of service, service activity, part replacements, costs, etc.
Track preventative maintenance dates and times in equipment maintenance records.
Track user-defined quality control values in equipment records.
Print equipment maintenance history report of service activity by type of problem.
Record techniques and film use per patient and procedure.
Interfaces
Support direct interfacing to modalities via DICOM interface
Support healthcare HL7 interfacing standards for communication with external systems.
Support electronic interface to HIS order communications system to receive exam orders and transmit charge transactions.
Support electronic interface to and integration with transcription system.
Support electronic interface to and integration with PACS system.
HIPAA
Support an enterprise-wide single sign-on user authentication process that allows individual users to logon to different systems with one global user ID and password.
Support automatic log off of work stations connected to patient information systems after a site-defined time period of inactivity (e.g. 5 minutes).
Support data access controls that allows assignment of security at the data element level within files.
Support an eight position alphanumeric Provider ID field in all software modules that use Provider ID, with the eighth position used as a check digit.
Provide ability to create data files for teaching purposes that meet HIPAA guidelines for compliance (e.g. tracking without specific patient information).
Technical & Support
Support graphical user interface GUI (e.g. Windows, buttons, toolbars, mouse, etc.) and menu-driven user control and initiation of system functions.
Support ability to use web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) to access system functions over Internet or internal intranet.
Support the use of "drag-and-drop" with mouse as option to visually initiate system functions (e.g. drag a file icon to printer icon to start printing a report, etc.)
Provide multi-level password security down to options within menus.
Provide commitment to support HL7 (Health Level 7) healthcare industry system integration standards.
